Ironically, today (March 30th) marks the anniversary of the date in 1855 that Longfellow wrote his poem "My Lost Youth," which seems to cover similar if not parallel themes.
Morris seems himself to have been invited "over the pond" by Hiram Collier. He declined on grounds of age, but remarked that "I have always reckoned on a kind reception from the 'otherside kindred' if ever I should cross the water" (January 1896)
